Diet and exercise

Menopause diet and exercise in Las Vegas: what actually helps

Muscle mass falls from the forties onward and that loss drives more of the midlife metabolic change than menopause itself does. A hundred and fifty minutes of activity a week improves sleep, mood, blood pressure and hot flashes together. What we tell Las Vegas patients to expect.

Muscle first

Las Vegas patient guide: why resistance training leads

Muscle starts going in the forties, well before the last period, so a woman beginning resistance work in Las Vegas at 45 is not starting early. Muscle mass declines steadily from the forties, and muscle is metabolically active tissue. Losing it lowers resting energy expenditure, worsens glucose handling and reduces the load on bone that keeps density up.

Resistance training is the only intervention that reliably slows that loss. Two or three sessions a week working the major muscle groups is enough, and it does not require a gym.

It also improves balance and bone density at the same time, which matters because fractures generally need a fall to happen first. Related reading: what to expect first, patient guides and bone health and osteoporosis go further into it. For Las Vegas women already diagnosed with low bone density, that combination is the argument for resistance work over another walking program.

The week

How your Las Vegas assessment works

  1. Two resistance sessions

Major muscle groups, progressive load. Twenty to thirty minutes each is enough to matter.

  2. 150 minutes of activity

Brisk walking counts. Spread across the week rather than compressed into the weekend.

  3. Protein at every meal

Requirements rise with age while intake usually falls. Spreading it across the day supports muscle better than loading it at dinner.

  4. Protect the sleep

No amount of training compensates for four months of broken nights. If night sweats are waking you, that gets treated first.

Diet

What the evidence does and does not support

The evidence-backed half of the list is short, unglamorous, and identical whether you live in Las Vegas or anywhere else. Adequate protein, enough calcium and vitamin D, and a diet weighted towards whole foods have evidence behind them. Alcohol is worth reducing, since it triggers hot flashes and fragments the second half of the night.

Specific menopause diets, elimination protocols and most supplements marketed for this stage do not have evidence to match their marketing. We would rather tell you that than sell you something. The detail sits in hot flashes and night sweats, heart health after menopause and menopause for the rest of it. Resistance training and a regular bedtime are unglamorous, and they are what a Las Vegas clinician will keep returning to at each review.

Common questions

Las Vegas hormone therapy questions, answered

What helps, what does not, and how much is enough.

Resistance training, because it targets the muscle loss doing most of the metabolic damage and it loads bone at the same time. Two or three sessions a week alongside a hundred and fifty minutes of general activity is the evidence-backed combination.
More than you probably eat and more than you needed at thirty. Requirements rise with age as muscle becomes less responsive to it. Including a protein source at each meal works better than one large serving in the evening.
Modestly, and more reliably it helps the sleep, mood and weight changes travelling alongside them. It is not a substitute for treatment if flashes are severe, and it is worth doing regardless.
Reducing it is worth considering. It is a common hot flash trigger, it fragments the second half of the night, and it contributes to the small increase in breast cancer risk that gets discussed around hormone therapy. Cutting out entirely is a personal decision.
Most are not, and the marketing consistently outruns the evidence. Vitamin D if you are deficient and calcium if your diet is short are reasonable. Beyond that, tell us what you are taking mainly so we can check for interactions.

Patient reviews

Las Vegas patients on their hormone therapy

★★★★★

I had been waking three or four times a night for two years and had been told it was just stress. The consultation actually went through my cycle history. Six weeks on a patch and I am sleeping through.

What I wanted was someone who would talk about the risks honestly rather than sell me something. They walked through the clot data and why a patch suited me better than tablets.

Marguerite O.

★★★★★

The brain fog was the part nobody warned me about. Having a clinician tell me it was a recognized symptom and not early dementia was worth the appointment on its own.

Denise W.

★★★★

It took two dose changes before things settled, which they had told me upfront might happen. The three-month review was booked before I left the first appointment.
